Virtual reality and post-oncology rehabilitation
At the Colpach Castle Rehabilitation Centre, we use the virtual reality/MotionVR platform in the treatment of patients hospitalised in post-oncology rehabilitation. In the context of neuro-peripheral damage resulting from chemotherapy, we use mirror therapy. This makes it easier to recover the mobility of the affected limb and reduces the pain perceived by the patient. MotionVR encourages the recovery of support and balance by allowing the different sensory inputs to be coupled without creating conflicts. Virtual Reality also allows our patients to fully immerse themselves in a session. They benefit from a "decorporalisation" and can thus more easily overcome their kinesiophobia. For example, a person who has had a mastectomy will forget the tensions and retractions caused by the operation. Another may try to straighten up after a stoma. We discover the benefits of this technique as we work with them. The main thing to remember at the moment is the satisfaction of our patients with their progress.
